Need to know

General Rules for Baby/Toddler and Parent Swimming Lessons:
  • We advise you come early (15 minutes) before the lesson so you have enough time to change yourself and your baby without any pressure or rush.
  • All babies and toddlers have to wear a swim nappy if they are under 3 years of age or until they are fully toilet trained. Swim nappies are available in most supermarkets or bigger shops and include brands like Little Swimmers and Huggies, etc.
  • Babies and toddlers must wear a swim suit or swimming togs over their swim nappy.
  • For babies aged 4 months and under we recommend the wearing of a wetsuit or baby snug (“warm-in-one”) as babies of that young age can drop in body temperature very quickly and the extra heat makes them feel more comfortable in the water. You can order these from www.splashabout.com

www.splashabout.com/baby-swimwear/baby-wetsuits/warm-in-one/

Different colours and designs are available and from experience we recommend one size bigger.

  • One parent or guardian must participate in the swimming lesson with each baby or toddler, but we do invite two parents to join in if they are available.
  • The parent or guardian does not need to be able to swim and just needs to support their baby or toddler during the lesson.
  • If there is any exercise you don’t feel confident with please let the instructor know and she/he will adjust the exercise for you.
  • Please inform your swimming instructor if a participant (either parent/guardian or baby/toddler) has any medical condition that may be relevant to the swimming lessons.
  • Please bring your own towel and all the toiletries you need for yourself and your baby/toddler.
  • Flip flops or pool shoes are highly recommended for parents/guardians as well as for toddlers who are walking comfortably.
  • We recommend that parents/guardians wear a t-shirt for their baby/toddler to hold onto during the swimming lessons.
  • As a guide we recommend trying to feed your baby 60 – 90 minutes prior to the lesson. Toddlers who are on solid food, can be fed 90 mins prior to the lesson. The exception is very tiny babies (under 5 months) who are feeding regularly, and they can be given some milk 30 minutes before starting their baby swimming lessons to ensure that they are settled and ready to go.
  • Babies and toddlers can get very hungry after swimming so be prepared to feed them or give them a snack after the lesson.

General Rules for Children Swimming Lessons:
  • A minimum of one parent or guardian must remain poolside throughout the swimming lessons.
  • Lockers are provided at each swimming venue. Please check the rules of the venue you are attending as every venue has its own locker policy.
  • You should inform your swimming instructor if your child has any medical condition that may be relevant to the swimming lessons.
  • Lessons start promptly so please ensure you arrive at the pool 10 minutes prior to your lesson’s start time. This will ensure you have enough time to get your child changed and on poolside for a hassle-free start.
  • Please note that children are not allowed in the water before swimming lessons begin (this includes the steps). Children may only enter the water when the swimming teacher gives them permission.
  • We encourage that each child experience their lessons without the use of goggles, however once the child gets comfortable without the use of them, we then introduce the goggles as this can enable them to make greater progress with their swimming.
  • Please bring your own towel and all the toiletries you need for your child.
  • Flip flops or pool shoes are highly recommended.
  • Children may wear pool socks on the deck but we ask them to remove them during lessons as they tend to create drag and make it hard for children to kick in the water. Contrary to popular belief, pool socks do not protect against athlete’s foot in the pool.
  • Children should eat at least 90 – 120 minutes before swimming lessons.
  • We highly recommend that children bring a water bottle so they can have a drink during swimming lessons. Like other forms of exercise, swimming is dehydrating and encouraging children to remain hydrated is good practice for later life.
  • Children must be supervised by their parent or guardian at all times before, during and after swimming lessons.
  • Parents or guardians are entirely responsible for any children they bring who are not partaking in swimming lessons and must supervise them fully at all times.
  • After the swimming lesson, children must leave the pool immediately.
  • Unfortunately, we cannot allow any video or still photography poolside at any of our venues (unless organised by Diana’s Swim Academy).
  • Please do not leave valuables unattended as Diana’s Swim Academy or the venue are not responsible if items are damaged, lost or stolen.
General Rules for Adult Swimming Lessons:
